  • Fish Pond Work Day in Kaneohe

Registration is closed

This is an open invitation to participate in a local community-based service event while learning about opportunities to serve abroad with the Peace Corps.

Paepae o He’eia is a private non-profit organization dedicated to caring for He’eia Fishpond – an ancient Hawaiian fishpond located in He’eia Uli, Ko’olaupoko, O’ahu. Established in 2001 by a group of young Hawaiians, Paepae o He’eia works in partnership with landowner, Kamehameha Schools, to manage and maintain He’eia Fishpond for the community. Paepae o He’eia was established to mālama He’eia Fishpond and serve as kia’i to this precious resource and treasure.

We will spend the morning working in the fishpond and talking story about the Peace Corps. Tasks include moving rock and coral, filling buckets, hauling floating barges through the water, cutting/pulling out invasive mangrove, invasive limu removal, trash pickup, and reconstruction of the kuapā.

Please bring the following items to the workday:

  1. Covered Shoes or Tabis (mandatory to participate)
  2. Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty
  3. Reef-friendly sunscreen
  4. Refillable water bottle
  5. Mess kit: a bowl and utensil - lunch will be provided!
  6. Optional: Hat, Towel, Change of Clothes

RSVP is required as space is limited! Please contact Shannon Lykudra at slykudra@peacecorps.gov with any questions or concerns.
