RPCVs on Maui
November 2024 Mike Ross was a RPCV who served in the Philippines from 1979 - 1982, eventually living and working in the Philippines and Indonesia most of his adult life. Mike was a very good friend of Jim Diegel, RPCV Philippines and RPCVHI board member on Maui, and he and Mike got to know each other around 2010, when his daughter was critically injured in an auto accident in Central Oregon, during the time I was still President/CEO of St. Charles Health System in Bend, Oregon. Mike's mother still lives in Central Oregon and Jim still communicates with her once or twice a year. One tidbit about Mike outside his PCV and international development work. He introduced surfing as a robust sport in the Philippines back in 1979, eventually leading to international surf competitions in the Surigao region. Mike is missed by many. The photo at the right is two PCVS in the Philippines- one is our very own Wade Keech- visiting the memorial on Olango Island where a memorial to honor Michael Avery Ross resides.
